Which Road in Marlborough Needs a Speed Bump?

We asked Patch readers on Facebook what streets they thought needed a speed bump. Find out what your neighbors told us.

Marlborough, MA- Over 9,000 fatalities occurred nationally during 2014 due to speeding according to the latest statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The data also shows a correlation between a driver’s age and the likelihood of a speed-related accident. As the age of a driver increases, their risk of being in an accident decreases. Men are also more likely to be at the wheel during a speeding accident, according to the study.

While the number of speed-related fatalities have continually decreased since 2005, speeding still remains an issue in many of our Patch communities, including Marlborough. Readers suggested everything from increased police presence to more stop signs to building less housing to keep traffic at bay.

If you’re frustrated with speeders in a certain part of Marlborough, you are in good company. We reached out to readers on Facebook, asking which local road they thought needed a speed bump. Here’s what your neighbors told us:

  • "Bottom of Cook Lane where Kane Drive starts. People are always flying down that hill."
  • "Russell Street. They go so fast their cars bottom out. Already had a bad accident when someone lost control."
  • "Chestnut. People think it's a highway. They go as fast as they can."
  • "Spring street. People use it as a cut through and fly down. Someone crashed into my car parked on my property because they were going too fast."
  • "Hosmer Street. People fly up and down."
  • "Tremont Street!! People fly on this street! And we have so many kids in the neighborhood! It's gotten worse since they paved!!"
  • "Spring Street"
  • "State Street. There are a lot of small children living on our street and a lot of kids walk down the street after school when going home. People use it as a cut through from Rt. 20 to Rt. 85 all the time and go extremely fast."
  • "Elm Street"
  • "Peter's Avenue at the bottom of the hill. Nobody stops at that stop sign, and nobody looks up the hill for traffic coming down the one way part of Cook Lane. Near misses every single day, and there is a bus stop there for all three school levels. Kids standing there literally all day."
