UPDATED: Whitcomb Students Back in Classrooms; School to Dismiss at Regular Time

Police and firefighters responded to Whitcomb Middle School, where a note described by the administration as "concerning" was found Friday morning.

UPDATED: Whitcomb Middle School students have returned to their classrooms, after a brief evacuation that followed the discovery by an administrator of a "concerning note" in the school.

The following note was released by a Marlborough School system spokeswoman:

"This to inform you that as of 11:30 a.m., police, fire and administrative officials are releasing students back to their classes. It has been determined that students’ and staff’s safety is not at risk, and the school day will resume as scheduled. Students will be dismissed at their regular time. Everyone is to be commended for their patience and cooperation."

UPDATED: Whitcomb Middle School students have been brought back inside the building, after a brief evacuation Friday that followed the discovery of a "concerning note."

As of 11 a.m., the students were waiting in the cafeteria. Parents were not being allowed to pick up students, and the Fire Department has blocked access to the school.

In a note distributed to media, a school spokeswoman said that there appears to be no threat and an investigation is underway.

"Please be advised that shortly before 10 a.m. today, the Whitcomb Middle School went into a lockdown as a precaution when a concerning note was discovered by administration," wrote spokeswoman Beth Wagner, in a message. "Police and fire responded and worked in concert with school personnel to conduct an investigation. Students were evacuated from the building for a short time."

"At this time there appears to be no threat to the health and safety of the students or staff."

A few parents who tried to get their children dismissed from the school were told they could not at this time. Some parents who entered the school property before the Fire Department blocked the access were waiting in the parking area, as a result.

Breaking: Whitcomb Middle School in Marlborough was evacuated Friday morning after a note was found. Marlborough Police are investigating, according to an initial scanner report.
