Donna Lowell-Bettencourt Named Interim Director of Student Support Services

Newly appointed Lynn Silva steps down, forcing search for special education director to begin again

Dan Seklecki’s shoes are harder to fill then anyone thought, and everyone knew he would be a hard act to follow. Seklecki, who retired after holding the position of director of student support services for 30 years, was forced to postpone his retirement from January to July due to the district’s struggle to find a replacement. In May, the district hired Lynn Silva. Then, citing personal and health reasons, Silva stepped down just four days after starting on July 1, leaving the position open again.

The search for a new director will begin again in the spring, according to the Vineyard Gazette. In the meantime, Donna Lowell-Bettencourt, assistant principal of the , has been named interim director. Vineyard schools superintendent Dr. James H. Weiss and West Tisbury principal Mike Halt will be working hard over the next month to find Lowell-Bettencourt’s interim replacement.
