Five Things You Need to Know Today: February 19

Today there is a Slow Food MV meeting, an OccupyMV General Assembly and Sunday Projects at the Farm Institute

1. Island Alpaca Farm Junior Discovery Program meets this morning for those ages 8 and up. Younger children are welcome with parent or guardian. 9:30 am - 11 am. For more information, call 508-693-5554, or register online at islandalpaca.com.

2. Come to the Farm Institute in Edgartown for Sunday Projects for adults and children ages 8 and up. Projects may include giving animals new bedding, moving and stacking hay, organizing garden sheds, mucking stalls or moving livestock fencing. 1 pm - 2 pm. For more information, call 508-627-7007.

3. The second island-wide Occupy MV General Assembly meets today at the Howes House/Up-Island Council On Aging in West Tisbury. This meeting will continue the work of the first in organizing and focusing in on the formation of OccupyMV Working Groups. This time there will definitely be a large amount of break time devoted to all who gather finding each other to discuss common interests, enthusiasms and knowledge in helping identify possible working groups that are ready to form and start developing ideas, proposals and projects. 2:30 pm.

4. There is a Slow Food MV meeting this afternoon at the Agricultural Hall in West Tisbury. Open to the community, gardeners meet to discuss anything and everything that has to do with gardens and growing food. If you are interested in getting on their email list, contact Melinda DeFeo at melinda@islandgrown.org. The group is now putting together a group order for potatoes, onions and leeks. 3pm - 5 p.m.

5. Enjoy Public Skating at the MV Arena in Oak Bluffs. Rental skates and helmets available at the Pro Shop. $5; $2 ages 5 and under; $15 families. 3:30 pm – 4:50 pm. For more information, call 508-693-5329; mvarena.com.
