Five things to know about Hurricane Sandy

1. All Island Schools and town halls are closed. As of press time, the Vineyard Haven and West Tisbury libraries announced that they would be closed Monday as did the YMCA.
2. There is a shelter open in Chilmark at the Chilmark Community Center.
3. All ferries have suspended service, as has Cape Air. The U.S. Coast Guard has closed its ports.

4. If you lose power or phone service, you are asked not to call 911. To report power outages, call NStar 800-592-2000. To report a loss of phone service, contact Verizon at 800-837-4966.
