Thunderstorms to Hit Martha's Vineyard

National Weather Service forecasts call for thunderstorms in Dukes County, which could bring rain and wind but are also expected to break the heat.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued severe thunderstorm watch and hazardous weather warning for Dukes County and surrounding communities with severe thunderstorms in the forecast.

Scattered showers are expected before 8pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 8pm and 11pm. The severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 9 pm.

Storms could, "be severe, with large hail, damaging winds, and heavy rain.  New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible." according to NWS.

NWS predicts southern New England will see the worst of the hazardous weather.

The good news is that the hazardous weather could break the heat. A low temperature of 68 degrees is expected on Martha's Vineyard this evening. And according to forcasts, tomorrow's high temperature tomorrow shouldn't exceed 77 degrees.
