West Tisbury Library Receives $35,000 Challenge Grant

In final push towards the library renovation, West Tisbury Library gets a little extra help

Challenging fellow donors to act by a deadline of October 1, a generous family of enthusiastic West Tisbury Library supporters has offered to match every donation given to the West Tisbury Library Foundation, Inc. — up to the amount of $35,000.

The challenge comes just weeks before ground is due to break on a long-planned project to renovate and expand the West Tisbury Free Public Library. Although the full construction budget has been met by a combination of town, state, and private funds, the Foundation is seeking an additional $325,000 to fund three enhancements of major environmental and aesthetic value: A semipervious parking lot infrastructure to help protect the water supply and wetlands; hardwood flooring, which is considered healthier and longer-lasting than commercial carpeting; and landscaping that incorporates native species and requires minimal care and water use.

“The Library is deeply committed to the safety, health benefits, energy efficiency, environmental protection, and natural beauty these features afford,” says Foundation chair Hunter Moorman of West Tisbury. “This is a rare chance for donors to double the value of their contributions and put these key elements in place.”
