West Tisbury School Names Interim Assistant Principal
Mary Boyd will take Donna Lowell-Bettencourt's place this year while she serves as interim director of student support services

Last month the Martha’s Vineyard school system found itself after newly appointed Lynn Silva stepped down just days after taking the position citing personal and health reasons. The search for a new director will begin again this coming spring, but in the meantime, Donna Lowell-Bettencourt, assistant principal of the , was named interim director.
The next step was for Vineyard schools superintendent Dr. James H. Weiss and West Tisbury principal Mike Halt to find an interim replacement for Lowell-Bettencourt. This morning Halt announced in an email that fourth grade teacher Mary Boyd had been chosen to fill Lowell-Bettencourt’s shoes for the coming school year.
“Mary has taught her entire career at the West Tisbury School, is deeply involved in island-wide curriculum work, and is a Responsive Classroom trainer. While it is extremely difficult to try and replace Donna, I think Mary’s skill set and work ethic will serve her, all of us, and our students well in this new position,” Halt wrote in the email.
