Majority Of Medford Families Opt For Hybrid Learning Model
The School Committee last month reversed course to start the school year fully remote and will re-evaluate the model by mid-October.
MEDFORD, MA — The majority of Medford families have selected a hybrid learning model for their children, according to data released by the Medford Public Schools this week. About 65 percent of families have opted for a staggered hybrid model when it becomes available, while 35 percent have selected a fully remote model.
The original plan was to phase in hybrid learning earlier in the school year, but the School Committee reversed course to start the year fully remote based on troubling health metrics at the time. Remote instruction will now begin Sept. 16 for grades 1-12 and Sept. 21 for kindergartners.
The aim is to begin in-person instruction for high-needs students Sept. 28. Meanwhile, the School Committee will re-evaluate the back-to-school plan no later than Oct. 16.

Once approved by the School Committee, the district will transition to the hybrid model, while still offering families the choice to learn remotely.
