32d Middlesex District Primary Election: What To Know
Three Democrats are vying for the seat vacated in November by now-Melrose Mayor Paul Brodeur.

The primary for a special election for the 32d Middlesex District seat vacated by Paul Brodeur is Tuesday.
Melrose City Councilor Kate Lipper-Garabedian, former Melrose Human Rights Commission member Mathew Helman and Wakefield Town Councilor Ann McGonigale Santos are the only candidates on the ballot. All are Democrats, so the winner of Tuesday's election will be unopposed Super Tuesday on March 3. (Republican Brandon Reid of Melrose has been running a write-in campaign.)
The 32d Middlesex District includes all of Melrose, Precincts 4, 5 and 6 in Wakefield and Ward 5 Precinct 2 in Malden.

Brodeur vacated the seat in November after winning Melrose's mayoral election. He took over for Gail Infurna, who was finishing out Rob Dolan's term, almost immediately due to a quirk in the City Charter.
