Turner's Seafood Plans to Open New Danvers Location

A Melrose institution is now one step closer to making its way into

, a family owned local business dating back to the 1920s, is vying for a location in town, and at , members approved their request for a home-rule petition for an all-alcohol license.

Because the warrant was approved, their request for a home rule petition will now be sent to the state legislature, asking lawmakers to authorize an additional license for the town for that business. The license cannot be transferred to a business at another location. 

Attorney Nancy McCann, who spoke on behalf of the restaurant owners Jim and Kathy Turner at an April Board of Selectmen meeting, as well as Town Meeting, said State Representative Ted Speliotis said he would support the petition, should it pass through Town Meeting. 

Turner's is interested in a location seen from Route 128, at 51 Needham Road. The empty building, adjacent to and , has been vacant for about five years. 

The business is planning to do approximately $1.5 million in renovations to the new restaurant space before opening. 

The new restaurant plans to create 100 jobs, and the town is expected to see approximately $40,000 in revenue. 

Outside of Danvers and Turner's Seafood Grill & Market in Melrose, Turner's Seafood operates a processing and fish market in Gloucester.
