DCR to Staff Lifeguards at Houghton's Pond Friday

Due to the current heat wave, the Department of Conservation and Recreation will extend lifeguard coverage at Houghton's Pond to include Friday, May 31.

With temperatures expected in the high 80s and low 90s this weekend, the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation will expand its early season lifeguard coverage to Friday, May 31, for DCR-run facilities including Milton's Houghton's Pond.

Between Memorial Day and late June, the DCR usually runs weekend-only lifeguard coverage, with the exception of unseasonably hot days.

“DCR is pleased to offer expanded lifeguarding services at your public waterfronts this Friday as the early summer heat rolls in,” said DCR Commissioner Edward Lambert via a press release. “Stop by, cool off or come and stay for the day. However you stay cool this weekend, please respect others and be safe. Stay hydrated, wear sunscreen and take shade breaks.”

Houghton's Pond and most other DCR beaches will have weekend-only lifeguards until June 22. After late June, the beaches will be staffed daily.
