Milton Native Earns Purple Heart

Spc. Michael Peterson was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received when his unit encountered an IED in Southern Afghanistan.

A Milton native has received the U.S. military's prestigious Purple Heart. Spc. Michael Peterson, a gunner with the 1048th Transportation Company, Connecticut National Guard, received the award on June 16.

Spc. Peterson was awarded the U.S. military decoration for wounds received when his unit encountered an improvised explosive device (IED) in Southern Afghanistan. 

The award was given to Spc. Peterson at Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan, by Brig. Gen. Scottie Carpenter, commanding general for the 311th Sustainment Command.

The Milton native is also a recipient of the Combat Action Badge.
