Milton Yoga Moves to Brush Hill Road Location
It took nearly a year, but Milton Yoga is now open at 12 Brush Hill Road.

Two years ago, Sean McCarthy returned to his hometown with the mission of opening Milton Yoga and creating a yoga community. As of May 1, that community has a new home base, the 1,700-square-foot first floor space at 12 Brush Hill Road.
Since the ski instructor turned yogi started his business, he'd been sharing space at the Carriage House School on Randolph Avenue. The new studio was completely redone and features two rooms for heated and unheated yoga.
Milton Yoga operated out of the Carriage House for 730 days. In that time, McCarthy said he's welcomed 1,534 new students. The class offerings will now increase from 27 to over 50 at the new Milton Yoga.
Most noticeably, the new space will allow for daytime classes, an option not available in the shared Randolph Avenue space.
As of today, May 6, Milton Yoga will have seven classes per day Monday through Thursday. Classes will be held at 6 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 12 p.m., 5:30 p.m., 6:30 p.m., 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. Friday will be the same, minus the last two classes, Saturday will have six classes and there will be four classes on Sunday.
McCarthy will teach many of the classes along with 18 other teachers, some new and some veterans of Milton Yoga.
McCarthy saw the new space in February and signed a lease on May 12, 2012. He expected to move in three or four weeks. A June opening turned into July, then September and December. He then targeted the New Year, a popular time for fitness business. That possible opening passed as well and on Wednesday, May 1, he finally received his occupancy permit.
Because the original building, which was vacant for seven years, was damaged in a fire the yoga studio was technically new construction. The building codes require all new construction to be fully handicap accessible, from a wheelchair lift to larger bathrooms.
Through the delays, Milton Yoga kept operating out of the old location. McCarthy called the Carriage House School staff "very gracious" for their understanding.
"I appreciate their patience and their willingness to share their space," McCarthy said. "They could have made my life difficult.
But now the stress is over and the yoga community is already settling in to its new home. Just hours after the permit was placed on the window Wednesday, McCarthy held his first two classes. The excitement for a new beginning was tangible.
"The energy in the room was awesome," McCarthy said.
With a range of styles and experience levels for yoga as well as meditation and pilates classes, McCarthy is welcoming new members to the growing community.
To encourage new yoga practitioners, he offers two weeks for $25. He also points out that even the most seasoned yogi was once a beginner.
"Yoga is something different for everyone, but at the end of the day it's about coming together as a community to support each other," said McCarthy.
