A Look At Newton's Second Annual Night Out Event [Photos]

A few hundred people turned out to join in the city's National Night Out event.

NEWTON, MA — A few hundred people, including Mayor Ruthanne Fuller, turned out to join in the city's second annual National Night out festivities Tuesday night next to police headquarters in West Newton.

National Night Out is a nationwide community-building program, started in Texas in 1984, that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie. The National Association of Town Watch in the United States and Canada reports that in 2016 more than 38 million residents in 16,000 communities took part in events associated with National Night Out across the country.

The Stacey Peasley band entertained as people enjoyed burgers served by police, Cabots Ice Cream, and bouncy house. Police were out in force staffing booths and providing information. Residents could also sit in a cruiser, or try their hand at the dunk tank.
