NEWTON, MA — Police confirmed that an 18-year-old was stabbed Wednesday night in Newton and hospitalized. He was expected to survive. Police said they have not charged anyone yet, but believe the person who stabbed the teen knew him.
The stabbing happened at an apartment complex on Needham Street late Wednesday night, according to police. The teen was transported to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
"We believe the suspect and victim know each other," said Lt. Bruce Apotheker, a spokesperson for the Newton Police Department. "We don't believe this was a random attack, so the public should not be in fear."

Police say occasionally there are reports of domestic assaults that involve knives. Last year a man in his 20s diagnosed with a mental illness stabbed an older man at the Star Market in what police described as a random incident. Something similar happened the year before when Quincy man stabbed a man at the movie theater.
