'It's Time For New Blood': Amberson Not Running For Re-Election
Jeff Amberson is not running for re-election.

NORTHBOROUGH, MAβAfter 18 years of dedicated service to the town, the always-thoughtful, congenial and fair-minded Jeff Amberson has announced he will not run for re-election to the Board of Selectmen.Prior to serving on the board, Amberson served for six years on the Conservation Commission.
"Itβs time for new blood," Amberson wrote on his Facebook page on Monday. "The tenure Iβve spent in this role has been rewarding and challenging. I am proud of the many things we have accomplished over the past 18 years. During that time, we have renovated Algonquin, the Zee School, the Middle School, the Lincoln Street School, and Assabet. We completed the library expansion and built the Senior Center. We made the investment needed to preserve several parcels of open space for future generations to enjoy. And we worked hard to bring in responsible new growth to town, most notably Northborough Commons.
"While the vast majority has been positive, we have also weathered some difficult times. Weβve gone through thru several economic downturns, only to rebound on solid turf. We watched our world change on 9/11. The most difficult, and proudest moment, was watching this community come together after Brian Arsenault was killed in action 3 years ago. Just an unbelievable outpouring of emotion and support. Reasons for everyone to be proud.

"My wish going forward, is that those who choose to run for this seat, will do so for the right reasons. I hope that there will be candidates that are committed to the town and its future, and not just looking for a platform to promote special interests. If you are in it solely for an ego boost, donβt run. For if you go into this thinking you have it all figured out, reality will bring you back down to earth rather quickly. And rest assured, folks will not be shy about letting you know their opinion, (which is a good thing).
"I want to personally thank all the members of the board (past and present) I have had the privilege to serve with, along with all the volunteers who give so much of their time for our community. And especially the employees of the town, I honestly believe there is no finer group. Lastly, and most importantly, I need to thank each and every citizen of Northborough. Without your support and guidance this would have all been for naught.
