Latest Bear Sighting: Cherry Street

Northborough Patch readers are encouraged to add their sightings in the comments section.

At least seven bear sightings in Northborough now have been reported in less than a week.

The last sighting reported to Northborough Police was at 11:24 a.m. Friday, on Cherry Street, according to the Northborough Police log.

Resident Chris Woodcock tells Northborough Patch his family saw the bear on Thursday morning.

"We awoke at 6:45 and I looked out the Β window to see the bear beating up our bird feeders. We know that we should have brought our feeders in, and were talking about it the day before after we saw a fox under another feeder at our house. Β My wife, Cory remarked that it would be just our luck to get a bear next," Woodcock says.

"I tapped on the window so the bear would look up. Β He stood up and walked towards the window I was at. Β Our dog Nelly, who has chased away deer, fishers, coyote and a bear in the past, started barking at the bear. Β I guess that ruined its breakfast and it wandered away to the North between the top of Chestnut Hill and the Cold Harbor Brook trail. Β It looked to be a pretty bear - I guessed about 150 pounds.

"We hope the bear will fill up for its hibernation. Β So glad we caught a glimpse of it."
