5 Things: Old North Church Chocolate Shop Opens

Deadlines, events and other items you should know about on April 12 in the North End.

1. Rain: Today will be rainy and breezy, with patchy fog after 11 a.m. and wind gusts up to 37 miles per hour, according to the National Weather Service. Rain will last into the evening, mainly before midnight. High: 41, Low: 38. Weekend forecast: Saturday will be partly sunny with a slight chance of showers; high near 52, low around 40. Sunday will be sunny with a high near 55 and a low around 37.

2.Β Library activities: Bring kids ages 3-5 by the North End Branch Library (25 Parmenter St.) today at 10:30 a.m. for a preschool story time. On Saturday at noon visit the library for a screening of β€œPirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest.” This program is free and open to all.

3.Β Shop opening: Captain Jackson’s Colonial Chocolate Shop at the Old North Church (193 Salem St.) will open to the public on Saturday, April 13. The new shop will educate visitors about the importance of chocolate during the American colonial period. See live demonstrations and enjoy free samples of 18th century chocolates. Visit the shop between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.Β

4. Art show: The Artists' Group of Charlestown will hold their ninth annual Spring Juried Show and Open Studios this weekend, April 13-14, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the StoveFactory Gallery and Studios (523 Medford St.). An opening reception will be held today from 6-9 p.m. All are welcome.

5. Know a bike-friendly business? Nominate it for Mayor Menino's annual Bike Friendly Business Awards. These awards recognize companies that incorporate bike-friendly practices that encourage their employees or customers to ride their bikes. Learn more at cityofboston.gov/bikes/bikebusiness/.
