Daily 5: 'Matchstick Men' at the Library, FOTNEP Meeting

Deadlines, events and other items you should know about on Wednesday, July 24 in the North End.

1. Showers possible: Wednesday, July 24 will be increasingly cloudy with a chance of showers after 10 a.m., according to the National Weather Service. High: 85, Low; 61.

2. Ridley Scott film series: On Wednesdays in July, watch the films of director Ridley Scott during a free film series offered at the North End Branch Library (25 Parmenter St.). The July 24 film will be “Matchstick Men” (2003), starring Nicolas Cage, Sam Rockwell and Alison Lohman.

3. No North End Movie Night: Because of a trip, the North End Recovery Outreach Committee teen program’s North End Movie Night will not occur this week, but it will be back with a “Christmas in July” party on Wednesday, July 31 at 7 p.m. at DeFilippo Park on Prince Street. Enjoy pizza from Regina Pizzeria, slush and beverages, holiday music, super slides and bounce houses and a special early visit from Santa Claus. The evening’s feature film will be “Christmas Vacation.” Bring your own chairs or blankets.

4. Parks meeting: The Friends of the North End Parks will meet today at 6:30 p.m. at the Mariner’s House (11 North Square), according to NorthEndWaterfront.com.

5. Ready for a challenge? The Tufts 10K to fight blood cancer is coming up on Oct. 14, and Team in Training is looking for runners. Get support through every step of the fundraising and training process, including a flexible, eight-week workout program that takes place on alternating Saturday and Sunday mornings in Natick.
