State House To Get Lightning Rod

The Boston Globe reports that the cupola's pine cone will receive a new metal cap.

By Jake O'Donnell

It took a few hundred years but the Massachusetts State House will finally receive protection from lightning with its first lightning rod, although things won't look much different, according to a report in the Boston Globe.

If you've walked by the State House recently you've no doubt noticed the white tarp covering the cupola.

The Globe reports that tarp will be coming down soon following the completion of $400,000 of work on the cupola, including the addition of the lightning rod to the famed golden pine cone on top of it.

According to the Globe, the cap of the wooden cone will now be metal, along with a hidden wire connected to the ground to protect from lightning strikes.
