Government Shutdown Has 'Little Impact' on North Reading

The government shutdown will have "little impact" on North Reading, according to Town Administrator Greg Balukonis.

After having a conference call with Congressman John Tierney today, Balukonis said that the town "expects little impact as a result of the Federal government shutdown."

Given that there are no Federal government facilities in town and that North Reading "receives very little direct Federal dollars" the town will not see much change due to the shutdown.

Balukonis also said that the Veteran Administration will be able to service veterans as they normally would.

"I was assured the Veteran Administration will continue programs for veterans at its present levels, including processing of claims for veterans benefits and medical care," he said.
