North Reading Fire Department Battled Tuesday Morning Blaze

The fire started in a garage and spread to the house, the fire department said.

NORTH READING, MA — North Reading firefighters battled a Tuesday morning blaze that started in a garage and spread to a nearby house.

The firefighters responded to the fire on Abbott Road shortly before 5 a.m., the North Reading Fire Department said in a media release.

The home's detached garage was engulfed in flames and the fire spread to the main body of the house, according to the release.

"A second alarm was immediately struck to bring additional personnel to the scene, including a second engine and ladder truck," the release said. "Crews quickly engaged in an aggressive attack, first knocking down the parts of the fire that had extended to the house and then concentrating on the garage."

The fire was extinguished about 5:30 a.m., according to the release.

"No residents were home when the fire started, and no injuries were reported," the release said, noting the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
