Police Report Scam Affecting North Reading Residents

The NRPD received a pair of phone calls regarding a scam residents received in their mail.

Several North Reading residents have reported being the target of a scam on Thursday.

The North Reading Police Department said it received two phone calls earlier today, Thursday, July 9, regarding residents that received checks in their mail, which included a letter from Shaw Financial Incorporated.

The letters to the residents state the recipient has won a second prize in a sweepstakes, police said. The accompanying check is supposed to cover the “processing fee” associated with winning the prize, NRPD said.
