Water Restriction In Effect

Summer is here and a water restriction is effect.

Summer time means barbeques, outdoor activities and hot weather. But all those fun games also means that hot weather calls for water use restriction.

The Town announced:


The water level in North Reading’s water storage tanks has improved somewhat due to water conservation efforts combined with the rainfall we received this week. However, water demand remains high and rainfall over the past six weeks remains well below average.
The North Reading Stage 1 Water Use Restrictions remain in place. In order to avoid the need for a higher level of water use restrictions, all residents and businesses are again asked to modify lawn watering practices to comply with these restrictions. The Stage 1 Restrictions are:

  • No lawn watering on Sunday, Monday or Thursday
  • No lawn watering between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.
  • Lawn watering is limited to two days per week:
    • Residents and businesses with ODD numbered addresses may water lawns on Tuesday and Friday
    • Residents and businesses with EVEN numbered addresses may water lawns on Wednesday and Saturday

Watering flowers, plants and vegetable gardens is permitted using a hand held hose or watering can.
The following activities are permitted, although the public is asked to voluntarily limit these activities:

  • Filling swimming pools
  • Washing cars, trucks, boats and buildings
  • Using water to clean sidewalks and driveways
