UPDATE: Tornado Watch in Effect in North Reading Until 11 p.m.

A tornado watch is in effect from 3:45 p.m. until 11 p.m. across much of Massachusetts.

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch, effective from 3:45 p.m. until 11 p.m., across much of Massachusetts.

The tornado watch is in effect in the following counties: Middlesex, Barnstable, Bristol, Dukes, Essex, Franklin, Hampden, Hampshire, Nantucket, Norfolk, Plymouth, Suffolk and Worcester.

Updated 2:09 p.m.:

Much of Massachusetts is under a severe thunderstorm watch, effective until Tuesday night.

The highest risk for this round of severe weather is between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. with the potential for impacts to the evening commute.

Weather forecasters are calling for showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 4 p.m. Some storms could be severe, with large hail, damaging winds and heavy rain, the NWS said.

Tonight, the NWS is calling for a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8 p.m., some of which could produce heavy rainfall.

The National Weather Service has issued several weather alerts regarding Tuesday’s weather across the region.

The NWS has issued a severe thunderstorm watch in effect from 10:10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Tuesday.

“A few severe thunderstorms are likely this afternoon and early evening across much of Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island,” according to the Special Weather Statement issued by the NWS. “These storms will likely contain damaging winds capable of knocking down trees and powerlines resulting in potential power outages.”

Additionally, the NWS warned that the storms have the potential to include large hail the size of quarters, a low risk of an isolated tornado, along with torrential downpours and localized flooding.

  • Noon: 82 degrees, 87 percent chance of rain, severe thunderstorms
  • 3 p.m.: 84 degrees, slight chance of severe thunderstorms
  • 6 p.m.: 79 degrees, cloudy
  • 9 p.m.: 71 degrees, partly cloudy
  • Midnight: 69 degrees, mostly clear
