1. Martial arts demonstration
EPOCH Assisted Living of Norton will welcome Troy Taranto for a martial arts demonstration on Wednesday, Dec. 12 at 6:15 p.m. Taranto is a 2nd degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and is pursuing his black belt in jujitsu. He will focus on teaching self-defense techniques. This performance is free and open to the public. For more information about the performance or to R.S.V.P., please call 508-285-3355. 2. Weight Watchers
Weight Watchers meetings are held at Epoch held every Wednesday at 6 p.m. and new members are being sought. The meeting is an "at work" format and about four more people are needed in order to meet the minimum. The cost is $39.95 per month. Membership is at a discounted rate with full access to all the Weight Watcher etools. For more information call 508-285-3355.
3. Barnes and Noble fundraiser
A fundraiser will be held at Barnes and Noble, 82 Providence Highway, Walpole for Ahern Middle School in Foxborough. Just tell the cashier you are shopping for the Ahern and the Ahern PAC will receive at least 10 percent of your purchase. The seventh grade band quartet will be doing a special performance 6 p.m. at the store. You may also shop online through Dec. 17 and use Book-fair ID 10939684.
4. Amazon to collect sales tax in Massachusetts next year
Governor Deval Patrick and Amazon announced that Amazon will collect and remit sales tax in Massachusetts starting next fall, and that they will work together toward enactment of federal legislation to resolve the sales tax issue by creating an equitable and simple framework for collecting sales taxes. Amazon also plans to create hundreds of high tech jobs in Massachusetts in coming years. The agreement will take effect on Nov. 1, 2013, in time for the next holiday season.
