4. MAKOplasty offered at Morton Hospital
Morton Hospital announced that it will begin offering MAKOplasty, an innovative new surgical option for patients suffering from early- to mid-stage osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee and hip.  The hospital will offer both the MAKOplasty Partial Knee Resurfacing and MAKOplasty Total Hip Replacement procedures, state-of-the-art treatments that are an alternative to traditional hip and knee replacement surgeries and offer several advantages to the patient.

The MAKOplasty Robotic Arm technology offers a precise and consistent result.  Surgeons perform the procedure through an incision that is smaller than that required for traditional knee or hip replacement surgery.  Additionally, MAKOplasty treatment can provide brief hospitalization, quicker rehabilitation and more natural motion after surgery.

Two of Morton Hospital’s orthopedic surgeons are specially trained to use the robotic arm technology, with others scheduled to soon complete the necessary credentialing. The first patient successfully underwent the procedure Nov. 30.
