1. It Takes a Community Basketball Game
The funds from this charity basketball game at Norton High School will provide support for Norton families who have lost a family member this year or are coping with a terminally ill family member. The game, which starts 7 p.m., features Norton teachers facing off. Half time entertainment features Tim Brown. Tickets are $8.

2. Rock for a Cure
Sponsored by Gramma's Angels, this is a team fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. This event features three live bands, raffles, pizza and a bake sale. Stop by City Oasis at 7 p.m. and have a good time. Remember to wear green for St. Patrick’s Day weekend to be entered into a special themed basket. Admission is $10 for this 21+ show.

3. St. Patrick’s Day celebration at Lafayette House
Mary & the John Connors Band will be performing 7 p.m. at Lafayette House Restaurant in Foxborough with a special appearance by Maureen Green's Irish Step Dancers. There is no cover charge.

4. Scams for businesses to look out for
Better Business Bureau and the Federal Trade Commission’s Bureau of Consumer Protection have put together a list of some of the top business scam situations:

Business opportunities. Many small business owners are approached to invest
in other business opportunities. Always make sure to check out the business at bbb.org.

Charity pitches. Make sure to always check out the charity at give.org.

Coupon books. The business offers discounts or extras in the coupon books that are sold by promoters to consumers. Problems occur if the promoters change the terms of the coupons to make them more attractive to buyers, when the books are oversold or when books are primarily distributed outside the firm’s normal business area. Make sure the coupon book is being promoted by someone you trust, and that the terms and conditions are clearly spelled out.

Overpayment scams. Your firm usually receives an unexpected telephone contact first. Sometimes an advance call is made to find out what brand of supplies or equipment the business uses. On the return call, the caller claims to represent a reputable company with which the firm often does business. The caller may state that surplus merchandise is available at a reduced price due to a cancellation or over-order by another purchaser. Accepting this gift may mean other obligations have been accepted as well, and you’ll be left with demands for payment and threats to turn your account over to a collection agency or attorney.
