Field Hockey Earns NFHCA Collegiate National Academic Team Award

Wheaton posts a 3.20 team grade point average.

The Wheaton College field hockey team has been named to the 2012 Gladiator by SGI / National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III National Academic Team list.

The Lyons compiled a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (GPA) to join 119 other teams on the list. Fellow New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) member MIT earned the highest team GPA at 3.56. Ramapo College and Wesleyan University ranked second (3.55 GPA) while Richard Stockton College and Simmons College tied for the fourth highest GPA (3.54).

Academically, junior Emily Chick (Bangor, Maine/Bangor) and sophomores Dana MacDonald (Belmont, Mass./Belmont), Sarah McNicholas (Boxboro, Mass./Acton-Boxboro) and Madison Wolters (Marstons Mills, Mass./Barnstable) all earned NEWMAC Academic All-Conference honors this past fall to highlight the squad in the classroom. MacDonald leads the group with a team-high 3.97 GPA.

To qualify as a NFHCA Academic Team, the squad must have achieved a team GPA of 3.0 or higher during the first semester of the 2012-13 academic year.
