Norton's Unemployment Slightly on the Rise

Norton's unemployment rate increases .2 percent in March 2013.

Norton saw an increase in unemployment in March 2013, according to the Massachusetts Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development.

Norton saw a .2 percent increase in unemployment, with 654 residents unemployed. The rate of unemployment decreased from 6.5 percent in February to 6.3 in March, a difference of 20 people out of work month to month.

March 2013 is actually a full percentage point higher in unemployment than 2012, which saw Norton at 7.4 percent. This was part of a general decrease trend in Norton’s unemployment, excepting a large jump to 7.7 percent in June and July that went down quickly to 6.7 percent in August.

The state’s average unemployment percentage from March 2012 to March 2013 is approximately 6.69 percent.

The state rate went from 6.5 percent in February to 6.4 percent in March.
