Wheaton Alumni Party Raises Noise Concerns

Selectman vice chair Robert Kimball says the party is causing problems for Norton residents.

The Norton Board of Selectmen approved two one-day alcohol permits for a function at Wheaton College on May 17, but with some contention.

Selectmen vice chair Robert Kimball raised his concern about an ongoing issue with the noise level at certain parties.

“We don’t care that you go out and have a good time, as long as [the students] don’t scream,” he said.

The party, which is a Young Alumnae/Reunion Block party, is scheduled for May 17, from 6 p.m. to midnight.

The party features a slew of activities for returning alumni, including bocce ball, music and alcohol.

Kimball was referring to past incidents where party guests would scream in the woods during the party. He said it causes problems with surrounding residents.

“All the neighbors sit straight up in bed when they hear that kind of noise in the woods,” he said. “All I’m asking is for them to make sure that kind of behavior doesn’t happen.”
