Norton Shelter Gets 1,000 Pounds of Shoes for Program

Norton’s Nine Lives Feline Rescue Shelter is asking for your shoes.

The shelter, partnered with Shoebox Recycling, is raising money for their rescue program by asking residents to donate their gently worn shoes to the program.

Shoebox Recycling gives the program $.50 for each pound of shoes donated.

According to the Norton Board of Selectmen, the program has already received over 1,000 pounds of shoes, totaling $500 for the program since its start in 2012.

The board encouraged residents to continue to support the program in the future.

The program accepts all paired men’s, women’s and kids shoes that are still usable. That means no holes in the soles or mold or mildew. Athletic shoes, dress shoes, timberland-type work boots, sandals, heels and flats are accepted.

Ski boots, heavy winter boots, roller skates, roller blades, ice skates, singles and unusable shoes are not accepted.
