Barbara MacCaffrie, 91, of Norton passed away Feb. 28, 2013.

Barbara H. (Yeaton) MacCaffrie, 91, of Norton passed away Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013 at the New England Sinai Hospital in Stoughton, after a brief illness.
She was the wife of the late John K. MacCaffrie.

Born in Brockton Oct. 22, 1921, she was daughter of the late Perley E. and Helen B. (Cobb) MacCaffrie. She was raised in Brockton and was graduate of Brockton High School class of 1939.
A resident of Norton since 1954, Barbara had over 40 years of service to the town of Norton in various town offices. She served on the Board of Registrars, Planning Board and Board of Assessors, being full-time assistant assessor when she retired in 1989. Mrs. MacCaffrie had also served as a former special police officer in Norton for many years.

She was a Massachusetts accredited assessor and served as Norton’s representative and the first woman to serve on the South Eastern Regional Planning & Economic Development. S.E.R.P.E.D.
Along with her late husband John, Mrs. MacCaffrie was active in the Norton Lions Club. She was the first woman sanctioned by Lions International to serve as the district cabinet Secretary and Treasurer when she finished out her husband’s term following his death in 1976.
She is survived by her son Kevin T. MacCaffrie and his wife Mary of Bristol, N.H.; her daughter-in-law Rosalie MacCaffrie; her sister Phyllys Billadeau of Brockton; her five grandchildren Randal, Kelly, Michelle, Shauna and Heather; her four great-grandchildren Isabella, Lila. Michael Dean and Nathan; her niece Sharron; and her nephews William and Wayne. She was preceded in death by her son Steven W. MacCaffrie.
A memorial service, to which relatives and friends are invited to attend, will be held Saturday, March 9 at 2 p.m. at Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp St. Burial will be held privately at a later date in Coweeset Cemetery in Brockton.
A reception will follow on Saturday afternoon at a place to be announced at the conclusion of the memorial services.
