Obituary: Ruth M. Phelan

Phelan, M. Ruth, (Polsky) 90, of Norton, formerly of Walpole, passed away March 16, 2013 after a brief illness. 

Ruth was a graduate of Lawrence High School in 1939 and went onto hairdressing school. She then became a secretary for Bird & Son in East Walpole, a job that she held for 29 years until her retirement in 1983. Ruth married the late John J. “Potts” Phelan in 1941 and enjoyed 71 years of marriage until his passing Jan. 4, 2013. Ruth and John loved to travel and took many trips to Hawaii, South America and Europe. They were avid golfers and took their clubs wherever they went. Ruth sang in the church choir, loved to dance and was a member of the Walpole Senior Knitting Club.

Ruth leaves her children Patricia Ann Murphy of Foxborough and Ruth Ellen Dziubaniuk of San Dimas, Calif.; her grandchildren John R. Murphy, Michele Murphy of Pennsylvania, Cheryl Medina and Kim Dyer of California and Linda Phelan and Heather Buell of Florida. She was preceded in death by her son John J. Phelan Jr.

A funeral Mass will be held Friday, March 22 10 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church, 10 Diamond St., Walpole. Interment will follow at Knollwood Memorial Park, High Street, Canton. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Thursday, March 21 4 to 7 p.m. at Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole St., Norwood, MA 02062.
