Synchronized Swimming Finishes Second Overall At ECAC Championships

The Wheaton College synchronized swimming team finished second overall for the fourth-straight season at the East Collegiate Regional/Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships this past weekend with a score of 82.0 points.

Canisius College claimed its 16^th-straigh ECAC title with 100 points, Boston University finished third with 65.5 points, the University of Pennsylvania was fourth (57.5), Penn State University checked in at fifth place (36.0) and Smith College ranked sixth overall (32.5).

The Lyons placed second overall in the team routine as freshmanAnn Marie Brasacchio (Sarasota, Fla.), sophomore Riley Callahan-Mayo (San Diego, Calif./San Diego Sweetwater Dolphins), juniorNicole Chicoine (Santa Rosa, Calif./Red Wood Empire Synchro), senior Christine Dyster (Tempe, Ariz./Arizon Desert Gems), sophomores Janine Kopeski (Sterling, Mass./ANA Synchro) andKayla Moses (East Greenbush, N.Y./CDYMCA Sculpins), junior Holly Wagman (York, Pa./Pennsbury Falconettes) and senior Kirsten Wendth (Waterford, N.Y./CDYMCA Sculpins) combined for a score 79.500 points.

In the duet routine portion, Moses and Wendth finished second with a score of 79.500 points while Chicoine and Kopeski ranked fourth overall (75.500 points). Chicoine also placed second overall in her solo routine with a score of 78.250 just ahead of Moses who was third with 78.125 points.

Wheaton also fared well in figures Brasacchio highlighted the Lyons' efforts with a first place finish in the College D competition with a score of 61.267. Moses ranked third in "A" figures compiling a score of 73.171 points and Wendth claimed fifth place honors in "B" figures with a score of 68.122.

In the Collegiate C competition, Wheaton took five out of the top-10 spots. Wagman led the group with a third place finish (67.024), Callahan-Mayo was fourth (66.786), Chicoine ranked fifth (66.571), Kopeski garnered sixth place honors (66.494) and Dyster rounded out the group in seventh (66.492).

Wheaton will take a week off before the Lyons return to the pool for the U.S. Collegiate Championships from March 14 to 16 with all dates scheduled to start at 8 a.m. In the last three seasons, Wheaton has finished as high as sixth place among a total of 21 teams at the U.S. Collegiate Championships.
