Back to School: Start of School, Student Lunch Information

The first day of school start and school lunch information was released by Superintendent James Hayden this week. Are you ready for school to start?

The first day of school in Norwood is Thursday, Sept. 6. This week Superintendent James Hayden announced the start of school plans for that day.

Elementary schools opening bell will be at 8:40 a.m. with dismissal at 2:55 p.m. An advisory that the State Primary voting will be happening at Norwood elementary schools that day, so drivers should exercise caution and patience when in the area.

Middle school students will begin school at 7:25 a.m. and be dismissed at 2:05 p.m. High school students will start the day at 7:40 a.m. and be dismissed at 2:18 p.m.

School lunches will be available to all students starting the first day of school. According to a release from the Director of Food Services Jane McLucas, the Elementary Student Lunch Program and the Full-Day Kindergarten Program at the Willett Early Childhood Center will offer two lunch choices daily, a hot meal and a pizza or a cold alternative. Students may purchase any of these selections for $2. The cost of student milk will be $.50 and an a la carte item will be available after lunch has been served for $.50. Various cold sandwiches are also available for field trips.

The cost of the Middle School and High School lunches will range from $2.50 to $2.75 depending on the entrée selected. Pizza, cheeseburgers and meatball subs will be offered daily. Various other lunch choices will be available as well as numerous a la carte options.
