Court Issues Complaint Against Driver in Hit and Run

On Tuesday, Dedham District Court issued a criminal complaint against James A. Gerber, of Norwood, for charges relating to a hit and run earlier this summer.

A criminal complaint was issued by the Dedham District Court Tuesday against a Norwood man for a , Norwood Police said Wednesday morning.

James A. Gerber, 40, of Norwood, was charged with leaving the scene of personal injury accident, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and failure to pass a bicyclist at a safe distance.

Prior to a criminal complaint being issued, police were not able to release the name of the driver.

On June 1, Norwood police officers responded to a report of a man hit by a vehicle on Washington St. at the corner of Granite just after 9 p.m.

"On arrival the officers found a man with serious injuries," a police statement read. "His bicycle had extensive damage and was in the road nearby. The man, who is a local physician, was taken by ambulance to Norwood Hospital and then transferred to a Boston Hospital where he is currently in stable condition."

The vehicle that struck the bicyclist had fled the scene. The following morning a Norwood resident (Gerber) came to the police station and reported he had struck something with this car the night before. Officers found extensive damage to the right front of the vehicle and to the windshield. At that time police were able to apply for a criminal complaint with the Court to formally file charges against Gerber.
