Norwood 150 Announces Town Anniversary Activities for 2022
A number of events celebrating the 150th anniversary will be held next year, beginning with a First Night celebration this New Year's Eve.

NORWOOD, MA - On January 1, 2022, Norwood’s First Night Celebration will kick off a year of celebrations of Norwood’s 150th Anniversary. Starting at 3 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, the First Night party will include a road race, dancers, magic, music, singers, and games. Complete details will be posted soon on the town’s anniversary website – http://norwoodma150.gov – which will include a year’s worth of exciting things to see and do on the special events calendar page.
Following First Night, the first currently scheduled event will be held on Tuesday, January 18, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the F. Holland Day House on Day Street when the Norwood Historical Society will sponsor a discussion of Patricia Fanning’s book, "Norwood, A History."
On February 10, 1872, a petition from “George B. Talbot and others, inhabitants of the southerly part of Dedham, praying to be set off as a town” was submitted to the Massachusetts Senate. Governor William B. Washburn signed the resulting act into law,and Norwood was incorporated.

On Wednesday, February 23, Norwood will stage a Gala at the Sheraton Four Points Hotel, in recognition of that date of incorporation. Further details will be posted on the anniversary website as that date approaches.
On Saturday, February 26, just after the end of the Beijing Winter Olympics, the Skating Club of Boston, now located at 750 University Avenue in Norwood, will hold a skating event. Norwood residents will be able to see Olympic caliber talent at a world-class facility at a special low price of $10 per person, with proceeds going to help fund the events and activities of the Norwood 150th Anniversary.

The events calendar already includes lots of the other events scheduled for Norwood’s exciting anniversary year – including musters, rallies, trivia contests, scavenger hunts, additional book discussions, historic walks and programs, and even a full-fledged documentary film by Norwood’s own former selectman and noted documentarian, Jerry Kelleher.
