Norwood Car Thief Nabbed After Car Collided With Van Friday Night
Walpole police assisted Norwood police in arresting Daeshawn Maurice, 22, of Malden, on four charges, including leaving the scene of a crash

NORWOOD, MA- Norwood police arrested a Malden man for stealing a car in downtown Norwood, Friday evening, which he subsequently crashed into a van.
" A man had stolen a car from in front of a business on Walpole Street near Davis Avenue," Chief William G. Brooks reported on Facebook Saturday, adding that a Walpole police officer attemped to stop the vehicle. "The stolen vehicle sped up Washington Street and eventually crashed near Day, striking a van in traffic, causing extensive damage to both vehicles."
Brooks noted that the man, Daeshawn Maurice, 22, of Malden, ran from the accident scene. He was pursued by Walpole and Norwood police officers and was captured near the intersection of Central and Day Streets by Officer Jennings of the Norwood Police Dep.

"Several officers of both the Norwood and Walpole Police Departments participated in the ground search for the subject," Brooks said in his post. "Strong work by all."
Washington Street between Vernon and Day Streets was shut down for a period Friday night due to the debris which was strewn on the road from the two disabled vehicles.

Maurice is facing several charges, including receiving a stolen motor vehicle subsequent offense, leaving the scene of a crash, negligent operation, and operating on a suspended license.
