Norwood Gears Up For Norwood 150 Festivities With Major Events
The marquee events of the sesquicentennial anniversary year are the upcoming banquet on Feb. 23 and an ice skating exhibition on Feb. 26.
NORWOOD, MA - Norwood’s year-long celebration of its 150th anniversary kicks into overdrive in February with two major events: a commemorative banquet on Feb. 23 and a skating exhibition on Feb. 26.
The banquet will be held at Sheraton Four Points, located at 1125 Boston Providence Turnpike, with a cocktail hour beginning at 6 p.m. It will feature a full-course dinner beginning at 7 p.m. The Steve Rudolph Trio, which has been playing piano for 40 years, will entertain guests during the social hour with music ranging from Cole Porter to George Gershwin, Richard Rodgers to Elvis.
Attendees are encouraged to break out their formal wear, although anything from business casual to tuxedo is considered appropriate. Tickets can be purchased for $75 at this link or by visiting Norwood Town Hall.

Celebration on Ice, a skating exhibition, will showcase many of the best figure skaters in the world. It will be held at 6 p.m. at the Tenley E. Albright Performance Center at 750 University Ave., home to the Skating Club of Boston. The event will feature two skating pairs: Audrey Lu & Misha Mitrofanov and Emily Chan & Spencer Howe. They finished third and fourth, respectively, in the Olympic trials and are first and second in line for the Olympics if either of the top two pairs cannot compete. And don’t miss the Haydenettes, 28-time U.S. champions in synchronized skating.

A late addition to the February fun will be a hockey double-header, also at the Skating Club of Boston arena, on February 12, starting at 3 p.m. The Norwood High School girls team will face Medway first, while the Norwood High School boys team will face Medfield in the finale. In between the Norwood Nuggets Mites will play a mini game. Tickets for the hockey double-header are $5, available only at the Boston Skating Club arena.
Coming up next month is a book discussion on March 15 on Mapping Norwood: An Irish-American Memoir by Charles Fanning, sponsored by the Norwood Historical Society. More information will be forthcoming, as the event may be scheduled virtually.
On March 6, the Norwood Historical Society will sponsor a reception commemorating the Massachusetts ratification of Norwood as a town on that day in 1872. It will be held at the Day House at 93 Day St. from 1 to 5 p.m. For more information, email the Norwood Historical Society at this link.
