Norwood July 4th Events, Parade and More: 2018 Guide

Norwood will start their Independence Day celebration on July 1.

NORWOOD, MA — There will be plenty of things to do in Norwood when the 4th of July rolls around.

The fun starts July 1 at 7 p.m. at the Norwood Common with the Sunday Night Band Concert featuring the Sharon Concert Band. The next day is the Carillon Concert at the Town Hall Memorial Tower featuring John Whiteside, St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church of Cohasset.

1 p.m. - The Children’s Bicycle, Tricycle, Doll Carriage and Historical Character Parade

This event has become a favorite for children and their families. Over 300 children decorate their tricycles, bicycles or doll carriages or come dressed as a historical character, such as Betsy Ross, Abraham Lincoln, etc. The parade, led by The Colonial Boys, begins at the First Congregational Church at the corner of Walpole and Winter Streets and proceeds through town ending at the Town Common. The fee is $1 and every child receives a festive t-shirt and participation ribbon. The winners are welcomed to ride in the main parade on a float.

1-3:00 p.m. - Tour of the Historic Old Parish Cemetery

The tour starts at the rear of 480 Washington St. and is conducted by the Old Parish Preservation Volunteers.

3 p.m. - Independence Day Carillon Concert

The concert, played from the Town Hall Memorial Tower, features Margaret Angelini of Wellesley College and Lee Leach of Norwood. A tour of the 50-bell Tilton Memorial Carillon will follow the one-hour concert.

5 p.m. - Norwood’s Firecracker 5K Road Race

Due to extreme heat, the race has been postponed, according to Police Chef William Brooks.

5:30 p.m. - Eastern Massachusetts Fire Truck Procession, Antique and Classic Cars and Historic Military Reenactment

Followed by the Norwood’s Fourth of July Parade Spectacular

The famous 4th of July Parade features national and international marching bands. In addition, the parade has entertaining acts, floats and community groups. Don’t miss out on this spectacular event.

Remember, there are no fireworks in Norwood on the 4th of July. Here are some options for those looking for a holiday display:

July 3

  • Walpole - Starts at 9:30 p.m. and can be enjoyed from anywhere in Walpole Center.
  • Foxborough - The fireworks following the Finish at the 50 5/10K at Gillette Stadium start at about 9 p.m.
  • Sharon - At Lake Massapoag at 9 p.m.

July 4

  • Canton - At the Irish Cultural Center at 9 p.m.

Be aware of the hot weather this year. The National Weather Service's forecast calls for a high that could reach the low 90s with lows in the low 70s.
