Norwood Kicks Of Holiday Festivities Sunday

The town will have hay rides, music and a holiday tree lighting on the Town Common

NORWOOD, MA - Norwood Center will be lit on Sunday afternoon, as the town will be hosting several activities as part of its Holiday Extravaganza.

The Recreation Department, in partnership with the Friends of Norwood Center, have organized an afternoon of events, including hay rides, a parade and a holiday tree lighting with Mr. and Mrs. Claus.

The afternoon will kick off with the Reindeer Dash at 1:30 p.m., a fun run around Norwood Common for youth that will be broken into different age groups. All participants will receive antlers.

From 1:30pm-3:30 p.m, there will be face painting and ornament decorating for the holiday tree at the Norwood Recreation department.

At 2 p.m., the Walter J. Dempsey Bandstand will feature performances by local choirs as horse-drawn hayrides begin. A series of readings will start there at 3 p.m. They include “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” with Linda Rau at 3 p.m. and “Twas the Night Before Christmas” by Selectwoman Helen Abdallah Donohue at 3:20 p.m.

A parade will start at 3:35 p.m. at Guild Square leading to the Town Common. It will end with Mr. and Mrs. Claus lighting the holiday tree at 3:45 p.m.

This is a free event, with activities subject to change due to the weather.
