Norwood Library Hosts LQBTQ History Discussion For Pride Month In June

In honor of Pride Month, the Morrill Memorial Library will host Joan Ilacqua, Executive Director of The History Project, on Monday, June 6.

NORWOOD, MA - In honor of Pride Month in June, the Morrill Memorial Library is honored to host Joan Ilacqua, Executive Director of The History Project, on Monday, June 6 at 7 p.m. on Zoom for “Milestones in Massachusetts.”

This will be a discussion about the history of legal prosecution and protection of the LGBTQ+ community in Massachusetts from the Puritans to the present. Massachusetts was both the first state to legalize same-sex marriage and the first state to support transgender protections through popular vote. This presentation will highlight early laws against queer activity, the LGBTQ+ movement building throughout the 20th century, and the continued fight for rights in Massachusetts.

The History Project is Boston's LGBTQ+ community archives. Founded in 1980 by archivists, activists and historians, The History Project documents, preserves and shares LGBTQ+ history. Learn more at historyproject.org.
