Norwood Man Charged with Dealing Marijuana, Destruction of Property in Police Station

Norwood Police arrested a 23-year-old Norwood man on Tuesday for allegedly dealing Marijuana.

Henry S. Samuels, of 15 Sturtevant Avenue, was initially charged with a subsequent count of distribution of a class D substance. A Norwood Police statement said that an additional charge, destruction of property over $250, was added when Samuels destroyed a sprinkler head in the holding cell of the Norwood Police department causing flooding.

According to the police statement, on Tuesday afternoon Officer David Eysie, who was assigned to plainclothes for the purpose of narcotic investigations, observed two young females walking on Sturtevant Ave.

"The two walked to 15 Sturtevant Ave. and were seen meeting with a black male wearing a white T-shirt," police said. "Officer Eysie witnessed a transaction occur consistent with that of a drug sale."

Eysie confronted the two girls away from the area of the sale and they admitted to purchasing Marijuana. They gave the him the phone number for the dealer (known to them as "Ace").

"Based on Officer Eysie’s observations and the statement by the two girls, uniformed officers assisted by Chief William Brooks and Lieutenant Peter Kelly went to 15 Sturtevant Ave. to make contact with this dealer," the police statement reads. "Officers Robert Harkins and Daniel Kehoe made contact with Samuels in front of the residence. Officer Eysie watching from a distance was able to confirm that the person he observed selling drugs to the girls was in fact the same person. At that time Samuels was arrested for the drug sale."

Samuels has a previous conviction for drug distribution out of Dorchester District Court and therefore was charged with dealing as a subsequent offense. He was arraigned Wednesday morning at Dedham District Court on that charge and the destruction of property charge from destroying the sprinkler head while in police custody.
