Norwood Man Leaves Overdosing Dad Before Overdosing Himself: Cops
Police say Joseph Martin was involved in a hit-and-run in Westwood before trying to evade police in Norwood.

NORWOOD, MA — A Norwood man was involved in a crash and left his dad to suffer an overdose before needing Narcan himself, police said. Joseph Martin, 30, was arraigned Friday from a hospital bed on charges of possession of a Class A drug, according to Dedham District Court. He pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Last Thursday at about 1:16 p.m., Norwood Police were notified of a red truck that was involved in a hit and run in Westwood and was heading towards Norwood. The call was followed up by another person who told police that there was someone passed out in a backyard on Cottage Street. Officers who went to the scene found a man, identified as Martin’s father, passed out and laying next to a red truck, according to court documents. Police say the man had a pulse, but was unconscious and needed Narcan. He was then taken to Norwood Hospital.
Witnesses told police that Martin and his father were together. Police then received reports of a man running around Vernon and Nicholas streets. On their way to Martin’s mother’s home on Spruce Road, police allegedly saw Martin running. When asked what he was doing, he said he was coming from the train station, wasn’t with his father, and hadn’t consumed drugs that day.

Martin then allegedly fled police, ran through the backyard of his mother’s home, and into a wooded area. He began to slow down before allegedly throwing something from his mouth. After police were able to catch up and he was taken into custody, police found a syringe and a small amount of cash on him, along with a wet bag of a brown substance on the nearby ground.
While in custody, Martin suffered an overdose and was administered Narcan, according to a police report.
