Norwood Police Warn of Scam Targeting Elderly

Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to call the Norwood Police Department.

The following information is a warning from the Norwood Police Department about scams that have occurred in the area recently. Anyone who has information on the suspect or who has been a victim of this scam is asked to call the Norwood Police Department at 781-440-5100.

Recently, area towns have experienced thefts whereby the subjects victimized elderly residents at their homes using the following scam. A suspect knocks on the resident's door and tells the resident that he would be doing some tree work in a neighbor's yard and that he needs the resident's permission to trim some of the branches overhanging their yard. The suspect and the resident then go out into the resident's back yard to take a look at the trees in question. Later on, the resident discovers money and jewelry stolen from inside the home, apparently by an accomplice working with the first suspect.

In one case, the resident mentioned that as he was talking with the suspect in the back yard, the suspect appeared to have his cell phone on as if somebody on the other end was listening in on the conversation between the resident and the suspect.
