Norwood Woman Finds And Returns Safe With Over $6,000 Inside

The woman was driving when she noticed a checkbook and pill bottles in the road.

NORWOOD, MA — A Norwood woman is being hailed by police as a Good Samaritan after she found a safe and checkbook in the road while driving and returned it to its owner — inside the safe was over $6,000 in cash.

The woman, identified as Maryellen Lynch was driving on Union St. approaching Route One and saw a check book and some prescription pill bottles in the road. When she pulled over to gather the items together, she noticed a safe as well. She grabbed everything out of the road and brought it to Norwood police.

When she turned the property over to police, what was found in the safe was $6,160.00 in cash, personal papers, check books and prescription medication. The owner of the property was notified immediately and the property was returned to them.

"This is a story of a person doing the right thing, at a time when it would have been easy for some to do otherwise," Norwood police said, adding that the owner of the property was thankful to Lynch.
