NORWOOD, MA - Spirits were high in Norwood Tuesday as the corporate headquarters of a Massachusetts-based cannabis facility celebrated the unveiling of its new brand by baking what they called "the world's largest pot brownie" in advance of National Brownie Day on Wednesday.

MariMed, a leading multi-state cannabis operator, decided to commemorate the launch of its new brand, "Bubby's Baked," a cannabis-infused, homemade brownie by baking a massive version that is believed to be the largest THC-infused one ever created.

Weighing in at a whopping 850 pounds, the confection measures three feet long by three feet wide by 15 inches tall. It contains 20,000 mg of THC.

"We realized that as an organization, we really needed to have some fun," said MariMed Chief Product Officer and SVP/Sales Ryan Crandall in an interview on Tuesday. "One of our employees said, 'Wouldn't it be cool if we baked the world's largest pot brownie?' Then you could see people's faces light up around the table. People were thrilled and so enthusiastic about it."

Crandall added that, because COVID-19 has been such a dark period in recent memory, it was important to approach the marketing campaign in a more lighthearted spirit.

"Everyone likes something soft and chewy, and people have been asking for something that wasn't a gummy," he explained. "One of the things that has been lacking in the cannabis industry is high-quality edible treats.

"Many of us had our first taste of cannabis though homemade brownies," he continued. "Bubby’s recreates and elevates that nostalgic experience, infusing full-spectrum, craft-quality cannabis into timeless recipes, for a reliable high reminiscent of simpler times."

He noted that Bubby's Baked brownies stay soft and chewy and have a shelf life of six months. They are made from scratch with all natural ingredients, including flour, butter, eggs, and sugar. There are no preservatives used.

Bubby's come in three classic confectionery recipes including brownie, chocolate chip, and snickerdoodle. Each Bubby's single-serving bite contains 5 mg of THC in Massachusetts, in compliance with state regulations.

The company's cultivating and processing plant is located in New Bedford, where the brownie was baked.

"We had to build a unique table just to hold it," said spokesman Leland Radovanovic in an interview Tuesday from New York.

"We are a very local company," Crandall added. "Most of our employees live in Massachusetts."

While many local businesses had to close or decrease their staffs during the pandemic, MariMed was able to expand to more than 100 employees since inception in 2012 with a staff of about 20.

"We a very focused on keeping our employees happy and fulfilled at work," Crandall said. "Although revenue is important, of course, we also want them to be able to do some fun things."

He noted that people are looking for more holistic approaches to healthcare, and full-spectrum cannabinoids are filling a void.

"Full-spectrum cannabinoids are much more effective than the distillates you currently see on the shelf," he explained.

MariMed products are sold in almost every dispensary in the state, according to Crandall, including MariMed’s Panacea dispensary in Middleborough.

Bubby’s edibles were previously piloted in Massachusetts under the name “Bourne Baking Co.," according to a press release.
