NVHS Receives $2K of Boch Fund Money

The funding will go to help local families spay or neuter their cats.

Editor's Note: The following is a press release from the Neponset Valley Humane Society.

The Neponset Valley Humane Society (NVHS) is pleased to announce they have received an award totaling $2,000 from The Andrew and Ernest J. Boch Memorial Fund that will go exclusively to the spay and neuter of owned cats in Norwood.

Since the founding of Neponset Valley Humane Society in 1993, volunteers have worked tirelessly to reduce the number of stray and feral cats in Norwood. With the current difficult economic conditions, NVHS volunteers are finding a number of once-owned cats abandoned on the streets. These friendly and loving animals are rescued, then placed in foster homes wherever possible but unfortunately the need exceeds the number of homes at the present time.

The Society understands that many cat owners simply do not have the money for spay and neuter. Rather than give up a loved pet because it becomes pregnant or develops annoying behaviors that are natural for an unaltered pet, NVHS is allocating money from the Boch fund to 40 Norwood families for completely free spay and neuter of their cat.

If you are in need of financial help to spay or neuter you cat, call the Neponset Valley Humane Society at 781-769-1990 to see if you qualify for this free program. A volunteer will complete a short phone interview for qualification. Cat ownership is a lifelong commitment. Cats are living into their late teens and even into their 20's. Over 70 percent of cats entering shelters nationwide are killed due to overpopulation.
